Museumkids.nl wins the Interactive Media Award

Museumkids.nl, previously nominated for an Artifex award, has won an Interactive Media Award in the category Kids. The website has been judged by an expert jury on 5 levels, design, content, functionality, usability, standards compliance and cross-browser compatibility. Museumkids.nl gained 475 of a total of 500 points.

This price completes our quartet. Lekker goedkoopSmartgate: the game and Jump! have already won an Interactive Media Award.

 

Where does a visit to the museum start?

The Netherlands Museum Association commissioned IJsfontein to develop Museumkids.nl. On the website, children can see what can be discovered in a museum by playing exciting games and fun competitions. It is a cross platform project that made us think about an alternative way of looking at a museum visit.

“Does a visit start at the ticket office, or three weeks before that when the parents think of things to do next weekend? Or when a child asks a question about old coaches? Where does a museum begin and end? At the walls of the premises, or can it be a collection on Hyves? Those questions touch on the changes the world is going through at the moment and we are looking to find answers,” says game designer and strategist for IJsfontein Evert Hoogendoorn.

On museumkids.nl various games can be played. The character Tikkit has been created to act as a fun monster and link between the games. The objects are explained in the games and they can find out where they can actually be seen. Through games and play they are introduced to museum treasures and the various museums there are. In addition to games, the site also has the latest museum news and a possibility to rate museums. This way children decide together what the best ‘kidsproof’ museum of the Netherlands is.
